The Project
The 21st century is characterized by the on-going change from industrial society to a “knowledge society”. The so called “up-skilling” of the employers and therewith the trend to higher qualification of employers are evident. The qualification of employees is important to be able to compete at the European labour market. Hence, it is not surprising that the employees in the future need good basic education and competence to be able to access the job market as well as to participate in the process of lifelong learning.
But there are large numbers of functional illiterates and people without an adequate education among Europe. Therefore it is not surprising that especially young adults who leave school without a basic formal diploma or certificate face disproportionately high levels of unemployment and social exclusion. Unfortunately it has to be noticed that especially young adults with a lack of basic education are difficult to motivate to participate in training and learning opportunities. The causes for that kind of learning resistance are multifaceted. Thus the factors can be intrinsic as well as extrinsic.
MoLeYa intents to create a motivation guide which will be published in all languages of the partnership. Furthermore recommendations of learning settings as well as for the dissemination of learning opportunities should be included.
The highlight of the project will be the European meeting of trainers and teachers in the field of illiteracy which will take place at the end of the project. Thus will be a good possibility to exchange know-how and work experience as well as it is a way of raining awareness for illiteracy in public.
